Glen Rose Texas
My honeybunnie and I decided to visit the heart of Texas (Austin and Round Rock) last weekend. The bluebonnets and other wildflowers were awesome. After a great weekend of soaking up the sun, watching the grandsons play soccer, we headed back along Hwy 281 and 67 home.
Well, we know we left alot of good "Que" in the Austin area, but we wanted to stop at Hammond's BAR-B-QUE in Glen Rose, TX.
We made it to Glen Rose right at closing on Sunday afternoon. It wasn't a minute to soon for our stomach's were growling like a big dog. The nice waitress behind the counter told us "Come On In, We don't close till 3:00 p.m." and it was 2:50 p.m. We felt really lucky, especially after stomachs were full and we were raving about the good food.
We ordered the BarBQue plate with three sides of meat, I know the picture only show the tasty brisquet, but they did bring the sausage and ham after we told them the plate was short two meats.
Apologies all around, but I think we got more of the good sliced brisquet than we normally would.
These were big Texas helping that they brought and dee-liciousss! Now I am not good on the rating score, but I can tell you the brisquet was tender with a thin smoke ring and a nice smokey flavor. The ham and sauage lived up to the billing especially after the sauce was added.
I really liked the sauce, it was a little sweet, served warm in its on small carafe. Now, that is a fancy word for BBQ joint. Wish I had took a picture! Speaking of pictures, here is the picture of the Ribs. The Ribs had a lot of smoke and they were
chewy, came right off the bone when you took a bite, but they could have been cooked a little
longer. We were served potato salad and pinto beans for sides with the Combo plate The ribs came with French Fries. The sides get a good rating. Texas toast was served buttered and warm. Can't get any better than that! SWEET Ice Tea was served Texas style in fruit jars and they kept it coming. Our waitress was attentive, even after the end of the day. She corrected our order with a smile and made sure we were pleased.
Hammond's has burned down several time and keeps on coming back. The history is on the walls of the barn like structure they built the last time the restaurant burned. I am glad they have kept on coming back cause I think the BBQ, it is a keeper. Next time you're in Glen Rose, Tx.
